About this bottle

This bottling is one of two expressions created by master distiller Adam Hannett for the 2018 Fèis Ìle (Islay Festival). It is designated "the last of the first," signifying the final five casks distilled in 2001, the inaugural year of Port Charlotte production. Port Charlotte is recognized as Bruichladdich's "heavily peated" range. This bottling combines five casks that were aged in either former American whiskey, rum, or French wine barrels. With only 1300 bottles produced, it will be available for purchase on Bruichladdich Open Day, May 27, 2018, at the distillery.

Makayla Zarate 4.3

Nose: Salty campfire smoke, a mild lactic funk, sweet and savory cheesecake, grilled peaches, red berries (enhanced with water). It opens up further, becoming more vibrant overall and adding a touch more tropical fruit. Taste: Mild salty/creamy smoke, red berries, black pepper, tropical fruits (enhanced with water). Water reduces the heat slightly and makes it feel a bit thin, but otherwise, it's the same. Finish: Lingering heat/tingle, salty smoke, peaches and cream, a hint of red berries (enhanced with water). Water diminishes the heat and adds a bit of graphite/charcoal. Score: 88/100 Final Thoughts: This was enjoyable overall, with nothing particularly off-putting. The nose is interesting but forgettable, and sadly that carries over to the palate. It's good, with a nice balance of flavors and interesting in the moment, but the novelty fades. It possesses the distillery's signature lactic funk and salt, along with the clean smoke of Port Charlotte. I feel it's worth what I paid, but not much more. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Perhaps Would I buy a bottle? - Not another NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.
