Popov Vodka

This vodka has a rather strong flavor that persists. It leans towards herbal with a balance of sweet and bitter. There are hints of antiseptic, but the finish is more akin to a mild Jägermeister. Some fruit and smoke are detectable, but not overpowering. The grain amplifies the antiseptic notes, which is a letdown. It's not terrible, but Popov's flavor profile is just different enough that its subtlety doesn't make it a clear winner.

This demonstrates that vodka can be a budget-friendly main spirit. It holds up against pricier options. It's smoother than some pricier vodkas I've encountered, and superior to all other vodkas I've tested in this cost bracket. In my judgment, it's considerably better than Taaka, Gilbeys, and Burnett's vodka. An excellent value at $12.99 for a 1.75 Liter.

Only consume if absolutely desperate. It's the subject of many jokes, known for being inexpensive and often sold in plastic containers. It possesses a harsh, unrefined taste that many attempt to smooth out through further distillation. Even when mixed into a cocktail, the flavor remains unpleasant. Furthermore, it is likely to cause a hangover.

The last time I tried this was likely around 2003. It's quite possibly the worst vodka I have ever experienced. I prefer to drink my spirits neat and savor them. This was so unpleasant that I couldn't sip it; I had to consume the entire thing in one go.
