Perth Canadian Whisky Sherry Cask

I was unaware that Perth, Ontario, was once a major center for whisky production in the region! Upon learning this, I felt it was my patriotic duty to honor that past by sampling Perth Canadian Whisky Sherry Cask Finish. This limited edition is a small batch Oloroso sherry cask release from autumn 2020. After opening, the aroma has a bright, cherry candy-like sweetness. After about 15 minutes, it settles into a gentle sherry and citrus honey embrace. Drinking it neat, there's an initial wave of sweet sherry followed quickly by spicy companions (not quite the Spice Girls) like green cardamom, white pepper, nutmeg, and a subtle savory umami for balance. While there's a light tingle on my tongue, it's not harsh. Its general sherry sweetness fades into a mild charred campfire wood, providing a warming finish. The palate isn't overly complex, but when you're in the mood for a sweeter-profile spirit, this would be a suitable choice. I could picture this spirit being excellent served over ice after a meal. 7.75/10
