Crown Royal Cask No. 16

I'm not usually a fan of cognac, but this bottle was a present. Over two weeks, I sampled it with meals, on its own, and with snacks. I found it paired wonderfully with other things. It was good with ice. It was good with dinner. It was good with a snack. By itself, I didn't think it was anything special or worth its initial cost. The taste wasn't bad (apart from the cognac, which I dislike, so I'm not including that in my assessment). In other words, I wouldn't discard a bottle, but these command absurd prices on the secondary market. I wouldn't buy it for that amount. If I could find it at regular prices, I likely would.

Rich aroma with notes of vanilla cream, lavender, and woody spice. Later, some soap and perhaps white grapes emerge. The palate is smooth, with the creaminess continuing. It has a thick texture, a sweetness balanced by spice, and an unexpected warmth as it goes down. Additional sips reveal more complexity, with acidic fruit. The spice lingers. A delightful, well-rounded dram. Shame it's no longer produced. 8/11/18

This whiskey is quite smooth and sugary, making it very easy to consume. The prominent fruit sweetness slightly overshadows the blend, diminishing its potential as an excellent spirit. While worth a sample, I'd prefer not to purchase a bottle myself.

The best Canadian whiskey I've sampled. Honestly, I didn't know what it was when I received it as a wedding present from a friend. Sweet and smooth. This is definitely a dessert whiskey.

The nose has a slight spice and a lot of maple, with some cognac notes detectable if you search. Maple dominates the palate and quickly fades. Feels thin and metallic... like most Canadian whiskies.

This was a significant letdown for me, particularly given the price. I found it quite bland. It was smooth, yes, but lacked depth for contemplation. It didn't suit my palate.
