After finally locating a bottle, I opened it right away. Initially, I didn't detect the expected amount of orange. There's definitely a lingering young bourbon (corn) character. It's decent, but I believe it needs a few weeks to rest, and then I'll revisit it. I tasted it neat, so perhaps a large cube next time. Comparing it side-by-side with the Parker's Heritage barrel finished would be interesting.

The best Penelope I've sampled to date, and I've tried several. Nose: warm spices, citrus fruit, and vanilla Palate: quite sweet, with light fruity notes and surprisingly a very thick texture for a Penelope whiskey. Finish: not lengthy but very pleasant. A superior whiskey in recent memory and under $100. Definitely a purchase.
I appreciate the prominent orange zest at the start, followed by a subtle vanilla orange finish, but the body doesn't impress me this time. It lacks any heat, as expected for the proof. Each attempt to enjoy it results in a lower score. I suspect this will serve well as my Old Fashioned ingredient.
Baking spice and citrus on the nose and initial taste. Similar to a cinnamon roll topped with orange zest. The flavor evolves with a burst of fresh orange/citrus. Consistently sweet and dessert-like on the finish. Some pleasant spice at the end as well.
Surpassed expectations! Very sweet on the nose and delivers in the body. A fruity taste with a hint of orange zest. The only potential improvement would be if the oak aftertaste didn't linger excessively at the end.
Aroma: Citrus peel or orange, a touch of vanilla. Flavor: Spicy and sweet, with orange citrus, a hint of vanilla and oak, and a creamy, buttery mouthfeel. Excellent thickness. It brings to mind an Old Fashioned.
