Penelope Barrel Strength Bourbon (Batch 8)

The nose immediately presents a potent mix of black pepper and baking spices, which soon softens to reveal notes of charred oak, caramel apple, earthy rye character, and vanilla-sweet bread. No single aroma stands out, and as the spirit aerates, it increasingly smells like cereal grain. The palate begins gently but rapidly engulfs the mouth with a surge of pepper and baking spices, predominantly cinnamon. This spice dominates, though faint creamy notes of oaky vanilla surface briefly before being overwhelmed. It's largely one-dimensional, gradually evolving into an unpleasant sensation of excessive spice. The finish is brief, with spice lingering but little else remaining discernible.

Nose: Caramel, brown sugar, a touch of corn Palate: Butterscotch, barrel char, raisins, cinnamon Finish: Butterscotch, crème brûlée, cinnamon Sweet, more intricate than the standard Four Grain but could benefit from more aging. 6.5/10

Consuming it neat provides a pleasant warmth. The nose has oak and a hint of spicy sweetness. A subtle lingering sensation remains; quite enjoyable.

Consistently caramel with a mild finish heat. It's a MGP bourbon, but a respectable independent bottling.

Similar to a very strong individual, its intensity almost detracts from the enjoyment.

Excellent. I'm increasingly becoming a fan of their bourbon.
