Similar to the standard Penelope Bourbon, this bottling is a blend of three mash bills and four distinct grains: corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley. It matures for 3.5 to 5 years in new American oak barrels with heads charred to level two and staves charred to level four. This bourbon is bottled at its proof from the barrel without chill filtration. Each batch exhibits a unique proof and taste profile.

Whiskey review for October 1, 2022 - Penelope Four Grain Barrel Strength Batch Number 10. Nose: herbal, floral, perfumy, sweet. Palate: caramel, cinnamon, pastry, vanilla, baking spice, oily, tannic, herbal, did I mention oily. Finish: long, initially dry then sweet, well-balanced.
Smell: A latte with caramel, clearly some coffee notes, leather, suggesting some maturity. Taste: Oak, extremely mild tannins, gentle vanilla sweetness. Aftertaste: A comforting warmth in the throat and a slight prickle on the tongue. Conclusion: A decent offering. I picked this up in Kentucky, but I’ve noticed its availability has increased in my home state recently.
Excellent. Oily and rich. Deep and warming. Flavors of chocolate, brown sugar, and dark caramel. Coffee notes. Everything dark and glorious. Notes of dates and figs. Delicious.
Sour apple right at the start. A surprising kick when it first touches your tongue. Absolutely delicious.
