Peg Leg Porker 12 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon

Seems like many people who visit Vegas speak fondly of Peg Leg Porker, though their memories are a bit hazy. Go figure. I went to a local spot for cigars and drinks to get one of these, which is surprising since I'd heard it was unavailable for a while. Right away, it's clear this is Dickel whiskey. It carries that distinct metallic vitamin aroma found in all Dickel products. This particular release seems warmer and sweeter than some of the older BiB Dickel bottlings, and it has a smoky character, though I'm unsure if it's genuine smoke or added flavoring (I'll know if I get a headache later). The finish is enjoyable, taking the prominent corn sweetness and softening it, rounding it out with notes of barrel sugars and maple, reminiscent of cured ham with sugar, which might have been the intended profile given the name. It's a solid interpretation of Dickel whiskey, and if you're a fan of that brand, especially the recent 12-year-old expressions, you'll likely appreciate this one. Cheers!

Aroma of fruit (peach), vanilla, and a hint of smoke. The fruity notes are definitely present in the flavor. The smokiness resembles that of a Southern Bar B Que. There's a slight initial bite, but it mellows out well. Too pricey for regular enjoyment, but essential for special moments.

Neat, first pour. Not much on the nose. Some spice. Complex. I can strongly taste the charred wood. Quite smooth. Sugary texture. Almost has rye characteristics. A slight burn in the back of the throat. I'm uncertain about my feelings for this one. A little astringent and tastes young for a 12-year-old.

I detect a very faint pork flavor, but I suspect it's more of a hickory smoke I'm picking up, with a sweeter and more vanilla-forward profile than I anticipated. However, it's very smooth with a pleasant spice at the end. I needless to say, I poured another glass; it was worth it!

The aroma is like smoky BBQ, and I immediately knew it wasn't for me. The palate is quite similar to the aroma. I'm sure many people would enjoy this, but it's not my preference. (Sampled at a specific event on a certain date)

Intense scent of vanilla, honey, caramel, and herbs. A soft, full mouthfeel featuring caramel and floral notes (perhaps rose petals?) with citrus (like lime or unripe lemon). The conclusion was brief for my taste.
