Devon Reichert 4.5

The SMWS gave this Laphroaig a generic name; Peach Flambé would have suited its intense, fruity character much better. Even when reduced to 50% ABV, the strong scent assaults the senses with petrol, seaweed, rubber boots, decaying bananas, and sweet vinegar. The oily spirit initially hits the palate with dark chocolate, followed by an unexpected star: a surprising burst of peach. Then comes cream, and a dusting of brown sugar. While I've sampled several SMWS bottlings over the years, I'm not a member and haven't paid their premium prices. I'm pleased to have acquired this one at a reduced cost on the secondary market. It stands as the finest independent Laphroaig I've encountered, offering a unique yet familiar profile.
