Peach Street Smoked Rye

The honey-gold color was misleadingly sweet in this, for lack of a better term, “whiskey.” The thin, somewhat viscous legs clung and then slowly dripped back down. The aroma was immediately distinctive. The primary scent was intense oily smoke and polyurethane fumes, reminiscent of demolishing a house and then burning the debris instead of disposing of it. There was a sweet element present, but it was clearly being suppressed. The taste, believe it or not, was worse than the smell! It had an oily mouthfeel and flavor, with the only detectable notes being what I imagine wood varnish tastes like, a bitter, cloying sensation, and an acidity that made me want to gag. I literally shuddered while drinking it. The finish was harsh and lingered unpleasantly, making it difficult to endure without drinking water afterward. Wow. I had no idea a whiskey could be so disagreeable to me. I couldn't finish a single glass. I tried multiple times on different days, hoping various factors would lead to a more favorable impression, but it was not to be. The only way I could recommend this whiskey would be as a joke or a gift for someone you dislike. Otherwise, avoid it! Peach Street, I'm truly uncertain of your intention, but I sincerely hope your other offerings are superior. Anyway, (with a new whiskey in hand) Cheers!

The aroma is minimal, with faint wisps of smoke, but the smoke and rye flavors emerge strongly on the palate, complementing each other beautifully. The smoke is light, reminiscent of firewood rather than charcoal or ash, and the rye adds character without being spicy or overpowering. Light smoke lingers on the finish as well. It's very well-balanced and could be a good starting point for those curious about smoked whiskies.

The taste starts mellow, then the rye flavor emerges. The smoke seems light to me, but it's there. Perhaps a higher proof would enhance the flavors more?
