Earthy rye spice and pepper fill the mouth, with dark chocolate cake following closely behind. This is a remarkably distinctive rye that fulfills all the criteria for what a rye should be. As notes of ripe fruit appear, it's straightforward. It's an amazing rye whiskey. The finish is medium-long with diminishing oak, ripe fruit, and floral rye spice. Chocolate cake is present with some chewiness, but it all fades as it should. Stunning.
