Olorosum 10

Outstanding single malt from an unnamed Speyside distillery. As the name suggests, Olorosum is a superb example of a sherried spirit. This 10-year-old single malt spent a significant amount of time finishing in oloroso sherry casks before being bottled at a robust 54.7% ABV without any added color or chill filtration. It looks as impressive as it tastes, with a smartly waxed top (how did they achieve that angle?!) and a black and gold label that evokes a sophisticated Art Deco style. Nose: Exactly what you'd expect from a sherry bomb – fantastic dark fruits, chocolate, a hint of sherry funk. Be mindful of the alcohol's intensity, but it's genuinely delightful with a Christmas cake character, plus almonds, honey, and cookies, underscored by malted barley. Taste: It's evident I thoroughly enjoyed this. The rich mouthfeel delivers everything promised on the nose. I added a few drops of water, and a new wave of cinnamon and nutmeg emerged, carried on a powerful current of sherried richness – simply magnificent. Finish: Extended and persistent; the higher ABV sustains the flavors indefinitely, leaving a beautiful impression of the experience. As you can likely tell, I adored this whisky. I truly believe it's the finest whisky I've encountered at this price point (ever!!!). Considering its natural color, lack of chill filtration, and near cask strength, there's absolutely nothing to dislike. I've already purchased three more bottles, as I'm unsure how long it will remain available, and I might share one with my whisky group. I understand international availability might be challenging (I'm in the UK and purchased it online from Master of Malt and Whisky Exchange), but if you have the opportunity to sample it, I'm confident you won't regret my endorsement.
