This 25 Year Bourbon, yielding 710 bottles from 11 barrels, was distilled between spring and fall of 1989. It aged at Van Winkle Distillery in Shively, KY, on the lower levels of their warehouse until 2002. Subsequently, the barrels were moved to Buffalo Trace Distillery, where they continued aging on lower floors of a brick warehouse. Aging was halted in 2014 by transferring the bourbon to stainless steel. It is presented in a Glencairn Crystal glass decanter, with each one individually engraved. The decanter comes in a box designed by Heritage Handcrafted of North Carolina, featuring a lid made from oak staves from the 11 aging barrels. This limited release is scheduled to be available from April 2017 at a suggested retail price of $1800.

Nose: Notes of cedar and pine, along with orange and baking spices. Palate: Highly intricate. Oak tannins interact with bursts of alcohol warmth and orange zest. Waves of cedar from the nose follow. An exceptionally long finish.
The nose has fusel notes, with wafts of enjoyable essence. The palate is so extremely disappointing it hurts. Tasted as if water was added. The finish is long and oaky.
Tasted like eating a caramel candy. Incredibly smooth. The best I have ever experienced.
