Old Pulteney Noss Head

Nose: Light and fresh, with citrus fruits, apples, and cereal notes. There's also an indistinct 'industrial' hint that's hard to place but not unpleasant, giving it character. A touch of vanilla is present. Palate: Driven by the spirit (it's young) and fresh again. Flavors of milky almonds, apples (or perhaps pears?), and a sweetness nicely balanced by some salty, bitter (but not oaky) undertones. Finish: The almonds evolve into milk chocolate, retaining a certain freshness. Medium-long in duration. I like it. Overall: A great combination of being light yet full of character. It's ideal when you're not in the mood for a dark, complex aged whisky but still want an engaging experience. I've finished my bottle and might buy another on my next trip. A solid 3.75, very close to a higher rating.

The aroma offers notes of vanilla, caramel, and green apple. The taste is velvety and features abundant notes of raw wood, grass, and caramel. It's quite sugary. The conclusion has a slightly intense caramel presence and fades quickly, lasting only 30 seconds.

The pale color doesn't hint at the deep and intricate flavor of this single malt. Matured in former bourbon casks, this “coastal malt” offers both spice and sweetness. Highly enjoyable straight.

Sweet and citrus notes are present in the aroma, along with brininess. The taste brings light spices, apples, pear, and abundant fresh lemon peels and grassy notes. The aftertaste has chocolate and caramel.

A hint of lavender and fabric softener is on the nose, while the palate offers coffee roast and green tea. It has an oily texture and a spicy finish. It's acceptable.

This pour resembles the Pulteney style – fresh, sea-salt notes, lemon, and sweet vanilla. I suspect it's a bit young, but it's a well-balanced and pleasant dram.
