Old Pulteney Harbour

Currently in the UK visiting family and introducing my daughter. After nearly 10 days of illness, I'm well enough to share a drink with my father. Despite some lingering nasal congestion, I'm quite pleased to have a brief window to enjoy a generous serving. This is a limited edition single malt. It was matured by the sea in a selection of four American oak bourbon casks. Nose: Light, a bit creamy. Oaky vanillins, malty white bread, toasted coconut. Perhaps a touch of bitter marmalade? Palate: Medium-oily texture. Creamy honey and buttery malt, with darker toffee notes, toasty coconut and subtle pineapple sweetness. Plump raisins and a light tannic spice. Finish: Medium. Very gently mineralic salt, dried fruits, and caramel. When I reviewed the other expression, I mentioned how as a child, my Dad would often buy a large white bloomer loaf on weekends, which we'd eat warm with honey spread on it. That's a fond memory and it reminded me of that other expression. Getting to have this one with my Dad now is wonderful. This expression is slightly less intense in malt, toffee/honey, and salt. However, it offers a fruitier and slightly deeper profile with more noticeable spice in their place. The underlying character is still very similar, and I think I'll go butter some bread; it is Sunday, after all. Salt dominates. It's prominent on the nose, palate, and finish. There's some caramel, but it's mostly just forceful, blunt salt. 21-23-23-23: 90
