Old Potrero Straight Rye

This rye whiskey has the color of caramel syrup and leaves thick, somewhat watery legs. The aroma is sweet and funky, offering notes of flowers, strawberry yogurt, caramel, sea salt, banana bread, French toast, chamomile, and orange peel. The taste includes vanilla, oak tannins, cherry candy, rye spice, and sweet smoke. Despite being at least two years old, it tastes young. The finish is sweet and spicy, fading at the end. Cheers!

Nose: Cereals, wood. Spice notes of cinnamon, clove, cardamom, cumin. Aromas of bread, dill. Fennel. Palate: Sweet brown sugar, wood, vanilla. Earthy notes. Clove, cinnamon, dill, creaminess. Black pepper. Play-doh. Additional thoughts: This seems to be a younger spirit. It could have benefited greatly from additional aging or a finishing process.

It's acceptable. The aroma is soft and intriguing with a hint of spice tying it all together; the palate is pleasant, sweet, and light with that same hint of spice still holding it together; the finish is the most rustic characteristic, bringing in more copper and spice than fruit.

A little overrated. It receives considerable attention generally for a rye not made by MGP. It's very spicy, with wood flavors at the beginning. The finish has a spicy kick and some astringency. It's very good, but not exceptional. It's a bit expensive, but given it's produced in SF, I can understand why.

This is my go-to rye. It's a high-proof rye with an amplified flavor, perfect for sipping. If you can get your hands on it, buy a bottle.

The best word is funky. Leather leads with fruity notes. Starts sweet and finishes spicy. Wonderful!
