Shaina Padron 4.3

During a current visit to the mountains of Ecuador, in a very cool place called "Baños," I entered a bar and checked the whisky selection, discovering a rarity: a limited 15-year-old Old Parr. I purchased a glass, served neat, to engage in the most crucial form of tourism: whisky tourism. Firstly, it's significantly better than the standard Old Parr. I believe this blended Scotch isn't widely known in the US or Europe, but here in South America, it's as common as water due to its popularity. Bottled at 43% ABV, it has a light gold color. On the nose: Pungent peat (similar to Johnnie Walker Red Label), spicy notes, coffee, and salt. It's nothing particularly special on the nose. On the palate, it's quite good. It begins with caramel (I'd bet it's colored), spicy, and pleasantly peaty, with a medium body, smooth, and oaky. The finish is medium to long, very enjoyable. With peat and spice. Very well-executed. After adding a couple of drops of water, all the peatiness disappears, enhancing the spiciness and the toffee, caramel flavors, and aromatic notes. A rarity. If you happen to find it on your travels, purchase it; you won't be disappointed. Rated 86/100.
