Old Mcbrayer bottled in bond

Just received my bottles and was eager to sample. After a delivery issue, a person named Bill personally delivered my bottles. We had a good chat, and I learned the bourbon originated from orphan barrels made at Bardstown Bourbon. It's bottled-in-bond, made with a mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley, filled just over four years ago. 850 bottles were produced. Light honey in color. The tears form and drop swiftly in a glencairn. Off the neck, the aroma is very reserved. After thirty minutes, it begins to open up. Traditional bourbon scents on the nose with minimal complexity. Sweet corn is prominent, and after some time, pleasant caramel appears. Once fully open, the nose is rich yet straightforward. The last quarter ounce is the most delightful on the nose. The taste is also quite simple. The sweet corn is present, along with a hint of fruitiness like a caramel apple. It feels thin in the mouth, and the finish is brief with a bitter end, suggesting it needed more time in the barrel. I'm very pleased to have acquired a couple of bottles, but overall it's just slightly better than average. I do believe it indicates that Bardstown Bourbon is improving with age.

The source and many specifics have already been mentioned. Generally a pleasant drink. The aroma benefits from some aeration. Quite smooth, featuring abundant caramel and butterscotch. No surprising flavor notes. The longer I savor this drink and reflect, the more I appreciate it. The finish isn't long, but that's when I detect some oak and cake spice. I approve.

The smell is of caramel, corn, and a hint of floral notes with some spice. The taste is similar to the aroma, with added notes of seaweed, marshmallow, vanilla, nuts, and spice. Perhaps a touch of apple. It has a good body and is very smooth. A gentle warmth is present in the finish. A pleasant drink.
