Old Grand-Dad 16 Year

The aroma on this was amazing to me. The palate was nice. The finish is short at first, then it returns and lasts a while. Overall, it's tasty and definitely better than EC18, and it's a contender with KC18. It's not quite worth the $200 suggested retail, but at $150 it's perfectly fine and meets or exceeds the quality of the 18-year bottles (mentioned above) in the same price range. A reviewer was a little too harsh on this one. I think this bottle might have been too ordinary for them since some of the online reviewers rated things higher that are simply different and not necessarily better in my opinion. All similar high age/quality Beam productions have very similar notes to me. It's a matter of determining 'which one is priced the best for the same profile?'. Ogd16, kc18, little book ch7, and bakers 13 all fall into this category for me, putting bakers at the top of the list for value, and the other 3 tied for second.

Nose: orange creamsicle, oak, sweet cherry, and vanilla. Taste: sweet orange creamsicle, then bursts of black pepper and cherry, with a sweet buildup of rye spice. Finish: the sweet orange and vanilla linger, and black pepper tingles the side of your tongue. The oak acts as a sweet blanket, tying it all together nicely.

Nose: Cherry, wood, maple, pear, and a touch of cream. Taste: More cherry, nutmeg, creamy chocolate, and oak. It may not be the most complex, but what's present is excellent, with a lingering and delightful finish. I desired a bit more from the nose and initial taste, but the finish is truly where this special release shines.

Offers pleasant notes of chocolate, spice, molasses, and nuts, but includes a somewhat unpleasant turpentine character. Nose: peanut brittle alongside gentle mint. A hint of vanilla. Palate: notes of raisin, tobacco, and vanilla. Medium body with an oaky finish, though it's ultimately unremarkable.
