Zoey Cope 4.8

The color is a deep, rich amber, and when the glass is swirled, it coats completely with thick, persistent legs. Stitzel-Weller was known for using barrels with unusually thick staves, allowing more whiskey to penetrate the wood, which might explain the dark color despite being only 6 years old. The aroma is very oaky but not overwhelming, simultaneously buttery with the perfect amount of vanilla. A hint of baking spices emerges, along with the faintest touch of cherry. The taste is rich and slightly oily, with oak dominating the mouthfeel, carried through by the butteriness for a wonderful texture. Vanilla and subtle baking spices follow, giving it an almost rich dessert-like quality. The finish is medium, with lingering oak and a touch of cinnamon, as the other palate notes fade with a very creamy conclusion. A truly great bourbon, only slightly held back by flavors that are a bit too delicate, unfortunately shortening the finish.
