Virgie Dang 4.5

A hard-to-find item, this old bottle from 1976, in a ceramic jug, 43% alcohol, but packed with taste and intriguing characteristics. This Old Fitzgerald honors America's 200th anniversary. Even some of the founding fathers are etched on the flask (definitely not talking about a certain quarterback!). Smells of brown sugar; overripe banana, like it's gone brown. Sweet grain notes. A hint of soap. Taste brings banana, dried plums; it feels considerably more like bourbon. Soap and spice. Finish is also quite pleasing and thought-provoking. It has a dusty quality, reminiscent of age. Notes of ginger and an overall dusty sensation. This is a solid spirit. Crafted for commemoration in a very elegant manner. It's not something for everyday sipping (especially given its rarity and cost), but it absolutely earns a top mark on my scale: 91/100.
