About this bottle

This Kentucky Straight Bourbon, released in June 2019, is the second bottling in Buffalo Trace's Old Charter Oak series, which utilizes diverse oak varietals for maturation. While most bourbon ages in Ozark white oak, regulations only mandate new charred oak containers, not specific wood types. The oak for this series originates from various regions, countries, and ages, including century-old trees. This particular edition features oak sourced from France. Barrels made from this French oak arrived at Buffalo Trace in 2007 and were filled with Buffalo Trace mash bill #1. It was aged for 12 years and offered in limited quantities.

Bailey Donohue 4.8

The nose presents as potent, reminiscent of barrel-proof spirits, but the mouthfeel... I hesitate to call it 'smooth'; it's akin to warm butter. Rich and full-bodied. Beyond the initial heat, the aroma offers graham cracker and a medley of spices. The palate confirms it wasn't merely aged in a charred American oak barrel. Highly gratifying on its own. Avoid pairing it with a cigar. Simply savor the spirit.

Rohan Coburn 3.8

The aroma is incredible. The taste is good, but there's an unusual note I can't identify.

Ladonna Lowery 4.3

A subtle profile of strawberry and oak.

Peter Pfeifer 4.3

Evening gathering with friends.

Marva Freeman 4.0

Slightly sweet and mellow.
