About this bottle

The fourth limited edition in Buffalo Trace's oak varietal series, Old Charter Oak Chinkapin Oak is a Kentucky straight bourbon. It uses mash #1 (corn, rye, malted barley) from the distillery. Barrels were constructed from Chinkapin oak harvested in the Midwest US, with staves air-dried for 24 months. Unlike the typical 55-second number 4 char applied by Buffalo Trace, these barrels received a 35-second number 3 char. The bourbon aged for 9 years in these barrels and was bottled at 93 proof.

Helen Snell 4.3

This tastes like a top-shelf offering. The aroma presented a lot of oak, with pleasant notes of rich vanilla, caramel, and spice, complemented by a pleasing woody oak essence. It finishes warm without being too strong.
