O.K.I. 10 Year Reserve Straight Bourbon

New Riff has been producing highly sought-after bourbons and rye at accessible prices since their initial releases a few years ago. Prior to that (and perhaps still), they obtained their spirits from MGP, marketed as OKI, or cherished in Ohio, bottled in Kentucky, and produced in Indiana. This particular bottle was shared by my companion from the Grand Canyon state, the Bourbon King / Costco Guru This isn't as assertive as some of the high-rye bourbons from MGP. It's quite reserved and understated, maintaining that character from nose to finish. There's nothing wrong with that; being timid can be good at times. It's a light, summery bourbon offering a refreshing peach note. For approximately $50, it's about average. However, a quick online search reveals it locally for $200. At that price, it's a definite pass. At $50, sure, if you're seeking something crowd-pleasing and suitable for summer. Thanks again!

Consumed neat. This is a neck pour from batch 29, aged 10 years. Notes of caramel, vanilla, and toffee with a whisper of pepper. It presents bright, sweet flavors initially, followed by deeper notes. The texture on the tongue is creamy, with notes of powdered sugar and deep vanilla, like a dessert. It evokes vanilla frosting with powdered sugar-dusted berries, even a meringue. It does leave an interesting dryness in the mouth.

This is batch 15, bottled at 97.75 proof. The aroma begins with spicy green apple, transitioning to caramel and vanilla. The palate is hot and spicy with a strong rye character and a creamy hint of vanilla and caramel. The finish is of medium length, with a lingering creaminess as the spiciness subsides.

Close. Poured at a restaurant. Aromas of vanilla, caramel, a trace of pepper, berries, and cream. Dark undertones are present too. Notes of cinnamon and baking spices. Brown sugar on the tongue. Followed by abundant vanilla and a touch of that pepper. I love MGP.

Peanuts. It tastes like it's from Jim Beam, but closer to its Booker's line. It's good, but nowadays, the secondary market has made the price and availability of this offering disproportionate to its quality.

Strong. A lengthy finish. Best served on ice. Good taste.
