About this bottle
This exceptionally heavily-peated whisky measures 140ppm and has been aged for 5 years. It undergoes a finishing period in barrels from Pétrus, a highly regarded French red Bordeaux wine from Pomerol. Named for the legendary Greek musician Orpheus, its red packaging represents the underworld flames Orpheus entered to save his wife, Eurydice, through his music. He tragically failed to return her permanently by looking back, causing her to vanish.

Arguably one of the best in the Octomore range, if not the best. Excellent balance of peaty smoke, bacon, rich molasses sweetness, and a long, lingering finish. Sadly, it's long gone from my collection.
Nose is peaty smoke, old cigars, moss, farm mud, diesel. Nicely spicy on the palate with a hint of earthy mushroom, vanilla, sandalwood, leather, and a touch of farmhouse funk.
Extremely smoky, pale, with a slight ruby hue. A lengthy finish with notes of wood and a touch of the sea.
Aged in red wine casks, with notes of ash and wood. Incredibly full and smoky. Wonderful!
