Octomore 13.1

Nose: Intense damp earthiness, peppery earth tones, saltiness, sugar cookie vanilla, damp charcoal, marker, unripe banana, overripe apple, wilting white flowers. Palate: Thick, oily texture, sea salt, pepper, malt, heavy honey, vanilla, ripe apple, ash, strong earthy peat smoke, ripe banana, a lingering, savory, smoky finish. This whisky is best described as eating a sugar cookie that fell into a peat bog. What an amazing bottle! I am completely amazed by the variety of tastes and smells. Such distinctive aromas remind me of coastal hikes through large peat bogs. Ripe and underripe fruits mingle with dying wildflowers. Charcoal, ash, wet cinders, heavy smoke. Simply incredible! This is likely one of the finest whiskies I've ever had. Even though it cost nearly $300 where I am. I am so glad I could experience it and share it with friends, colleagues, and family. Remember to share your whisky, folks; it's better enjoyed with loved ones than alone. My bottle is nearly empty, so I decided it was time for a review. If you ever see one, buy it! At a fair price, of course... or maybe even a slightly high one.

Amber color with some translucency. On the nose, salt dominates, along with meaty notes reminiscent of cured ham, but with considerable complexity and many layers. Marshmallow in a broad context: floral, dried fruit, rough, and chocolatey, with a sweet base and bitter tips. A complexity that is at times difficult to decipher. On the palate, this complexity is dominated by a pungent and astringent sweetness, with some caramel. Finish: Even sweeter, with a smoothness that contrasts with the aggressiveness on the palate. Finish is long and warm.

Yes! Another outstanding performance from the Octomore Series. The 13.1 once again presents a smoky, pear-like liquid with a developing array of flavors as you sip. Once you pass through the smoke-filled gateway, the peaty smoke flavors are no longer the primary focus. Creamy notes of dark chocolate and orange will envelop your palate. Absolutely delicious.

Nose: vibrant, potent peat, ocean spray Palate: classic bourbon cask influence, lemon, creamy earthy peat, not very smoky Finish: earthiness persists, salty, smoky There's a lot of peat, but less than anticipated. It would be preferable if it leaned more towards smoke than 'earthiness.' Nevertheless, it's still enjoyable.

Smoke, band-aids with sweet grain and fruit, which sounds unappealing but it's fantastic. It's pricey (the only reason I didn't give it five stars) but, in my view, absolutely worth it. I would 100% buy it again if I had the available cash when I find it.

Nose: woodsmoke, gamey charcuterie, pungent funk, sea brine, faint medicinal notes, a hint of sweetness. Evokes a misty seaside dawn. Palate: Savory, intense woodsmoke, fruit-infused cured meats. It grabs your attention and compels enjoyment. Incredible! This one is a winner!
