NULU Double Oaked Bourbon

The nose presents notes of chocolate, cherry, maple syrup, and rye bread. The initial taste on the front palate is a burst of chocolate and cherry. The flavor develops into more leathery, tobacco, and pepper notes by the mid-palate. The finish brings a lot of heat that is both numbing and bitter. A very intriguing tasting experience that merges very sweet flavors with bitter elements and heat.

Aroma: oak, smoke, chocolate, cherry, char, smores Palate: dark fruit, leather, oakey, tobacco, root beer Quite pleasant. A mix of sweet and drying. It resembles Woodford Double Oak amplified. The nose may be slightly superior to the palate, but it has a great mouthfeel, especially in the mid-palate. The price is reasonable considering the proof and flavor.

The aroma begins wonderfully with caramel vanilla and some sweet oak, but the palate becomes excessively oaky for my preference, and the finish deteriorates. I simply do not enjoy this bitter, oaky finish. UPDATE: Following some air time, it has significantly improved, and I have raised the score. The finish remains singular in character but possesses better flavor.

Deep coloration, likely from double oak aging and being non-chill filtered. The aroma is sweet and woody. A dry, spicy sensation on the initial palate, with the double oak influence continuing. Surprisingly little burn for 58.2% ABV and a brief finish. The sweetness perceived initially and in the aroma faded throughout.

Remarkably smooth considering its alcohol content. A great pour with hints of chocolate and cherry on the nose, and an oak vanilla finish. This Ohio exclusive lives up to the buzz.
