About this bottle

Introduced by Austin Spirits in 2014 for the Austin City Limits festival, this small-batch whiskey is distilled in Kentucky and bottled in Austin, Texas. The Texas bottling involves blending with limestone-filtered water from the Texas Hill Country. It is aged in charred American oak barrels. The name honors the nine-banded armadillo, Texas's state mammal, and the former music venue, Armadillo World Headquarters.

It took a moment to identify the initial taste, but I realized it came from the limestone-filtered water. I found it added an interesting uniqueness, though unfortunately, the flavors didn't last very long.

Zachery Chavarria 2.0

A strong corn aroma, and the taste is similar, reminiscent of unaged whiskey with some barrel staves for color. It might work for cocktails, but it's not suitable for enjoying straight.

Allan Pena 2.5

Caramel and vanilla are present, but it feels muted, both in aroma and flavor. I'm surprised given what I spent. It's adequate but not compelling enough to repurchase.

Lee Wallace 3.5

If it were priced at $20, it would be an excellent whiskey, but at $30, it feels somewhat diluted. I made a poor judgment based on its appearance and missed out.

Geoffrey Cortez 1.0

I feel ripped off. Among the least appealing whiskies I've tried at this price point. Thin and harsh. It lacks balance and complexity.

Lorrie Burrell 4.0

I appreciate the limestone-filtered water. It gives the whiskey a distinctive character compared to others. I also like it for the price!
