About this bottle
As part of the "Nikka Discovery" series introduced to the US market, this bottling is among the first two. This collection reflects techniques Nikka has refined since its 1934 inception, leading up to its 90th anniversary in 2024. This specific expression is created exclusively from batches of peated malts, offering a departure from the distillery's characteristic lighter, fruitier spirits. It is presented non chill-filtered at 48% ABV, with 20,000 bottles made available in November, 2021.

The peat is subtle, refined, and complements the warm, malty aroma. The taste also has a light touch of peat that enhances the spirit's baked goods character. While quite traditional and similar to Japanese whiskies, this one still presents its own distinct flavors at the finish. Some ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a hint of clove add depth and a dry, bright conclusion.
I enjoyed the non-peated Yoichi, but liked this even more. A long, sweet, natural finish with the ideal amount of smoke throughout.
Excellent aroma, pleasant initial taste, good mid-palate, and a harsh finish. It's smooth and buttery. Best enjoyed in smaller sips.
Smells like fish. But it's tasty
