Jura is an interesting spirit. Their older non-age-statement expressions were good. But the 18-year was mediocre. That doesn't give me high hopes for this one, but I'll give it a fair try. Nose: Macadamia, cashew, and toasted almond. Vanilla, sugar cookie, and toffee. Strong orange citrus note. Butterscotch. Caramel. Apricot. A little apple and pear. Green grape. A touch of smoke and sea salt. Prominent oak. Palate: Caramel, vanilla, toffee, honey, and butterscotch. Vanilla frosting as well. Apple, pear, apricot, orange citrus. Golden raisins. Honeydew and lime. Apple juice. Cashew and toasted almond. More macadamia, cashew, and toasted almond. Sea salt, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and oak. Finish: Caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, sugar cookie, and toffee. Menthol. Apple, pear, apricot, orange, and golden raisin. Sea salt. Oak. Short to moderate in length. This is a pretty good whisky. And a pleasant surprise. The finish is a bit lacking at 40% ABV, but the nose and palate have some vibrancy. The 18-year might have a slight edge in quality. Yet, I’m rating this a quarter star higher because of value for money. The fact that I can purchase three of these for the price of one 18-year and still have money left over is significant. 3.75/5. As I've stated, it offers fantastic value for money at $40. It's a solid flagship offering, and though I'm disappointed that Jura discontinued the rest of their old core range, I'm glad they at least kept this one. Good stuff here.

March 20, 2025 - at a hidden bar in Nancy Women aged 18 are now 15 years younger... This will become increasingly difficult to justify as the years go by. Golden skirt. A pleasant sweet and fruity aroma. Spicy first sip. Industrial second sip. Spicy third sip. No primary flavors, no nuances, no allure, like a prostitute who announces herself with heavy footsteps and excessive makeup. With its lack of taste and subtlety, she thinks she's changing the game by proudly displaying a banner of lewd and unrefined flavor... But discerning individuals can tell the difference between a tramp and a noblewoman. Artificial spirits can never replace the delicacy of natural aromas... Makeup can never replace a penetrating gaze... Trampish qualities fade, but noblewomen leave a mark on hearts and minds. Amen.

All in all, it's pretty decent, particularly considering what it costs. The smoky character is a bit more intense than I generally go for, but it's surprisingly mellow. It seems to drink like a spirit aged a dozen years rather than ten. I'd venture it's likely the top choice for someone curious about an Islay for the very first time. The peat and smoke notes aren't excessive in the least, so I'd definitely suggest it if you're seeking forward smoke notes without a taste of pure burnt vegetal tar. Islays aren't my favorite, but this one is acceptable.

Jura 10 presents distinct notes of charred citrus rind and toasted sugar. The aroma is typical for a Scotch, revealing subtle floral undertones with a concentrated sniff. A faint earthy aroma, reminiscent of certain rums, such as Appleton 12 Year, can be detected, and amusingly, they share the same bottle design. It achieves good equilibrium given its nature.
