New Southern Revival Bourbon Madeira Finish

The aroma offers sweet wine mingling well with charred oak, plus hints of raisins, leather, vanilla, molasses, and grainy notes that seem rich. The taste begins gently but quickly saturates the palate with black pepper and cinnamon, while the sweet wine primarily stays at the front, now appearing somewhat tart. It softens further, as by the next sip the spice isn't overly intense. The remainder of the taste is somewhat underwhelming, with faint hints of sweet molasses, vanilla, and raisins; it's very subtle and easily missed. The finish is moderate and reveals the whiskey's youth. The taste becomes grassy, though subtle traces of vanilla and oak persist, requiring effort to detect. This whiskey would benefit from more maturation and added complexity; the madeira finish is present, but the underlying whiskey isn't particularly memorable.

Nose: initially, dark fruits such as plums and cherries appear, followed by prominent corn characteristics suggesting a younger spirit. It's an acceptable beginning, but concern arises regarding its lack of maturity. Palate: the fruit notes from the aroma recede, replaced by abundant corn and grain flavors. It seems to contain very little rye, as there's virtually no spice, and it drinks more like a wheat whiskey or perhaps even malted barley. While immaturity isn't an issue here, and it tastes alright, it's not particularly impressive. Finish: this concludes rapidly, with the malt flavors being the most persistent, accompanied by a touch of corn. It leaves a desire for something more substantial. Overall: I'm quite fond of the Jimmy Red Bourbon from this producer and had anticipated great things from this bottling, but found it pleasant though not outstanding.

At the distillery, and the server truly despises her existence, likely due to these idiots I'm with.

The aroma resembles spice cake. The palate features baking spices and red fruit. The finish is long, warm, and pleasing. It's my new favorite.

Quite enjoyable.
