*** NO WAY HOME *** Nose - Cinnamon and baking spice were abundant on the nose. A huge sweetness accompanied the spice, similar to a vanilla bean. Toasted leather was certainly present. As it opened, grape and pear began to emerge. It finished with a black licorice aroma, a very complex and enjoyable nose. Palate - Wow, this is extremely herbal. How is this not a rye? I have no clue. More black licorice was definitely there, along with cherry and more leather. Not much oak, as this drinks thinly. Some cinnamon remained but subtly, not as strong as on the nose. That was about it. Very good but very surprising for a bourbon. Finish - The finish is somewhat like a lighter version of the palate, with the leather and cinnamon slightly more pronounced. Enjoyable, not harsh, and drinks right at its stated proof.

Nose presents as caramel and cherry upfront, with a touch of oakiness balanced by vanilla. Light floral notes appear randomly. Dark chocolate emerges, intertwined with the caramel. This complex nose reveals many notes, with peanut butter, reminiscent of a Reese's, appearing after opening. Palate is dominated by oak. Hints of cherry and vanilla complement the oak. Leather notes emerge towards the finish, starting on the mid-palate. Bitter cocoa bits accompany the pour. The mouthfeel is like light whipped cream. Finish features abundant leather and cinnamon. The warmth is pleasant and not overpowering.

*** SALSA *** Nose - Impressive deep cherry aroma. A hint of barrel spice. Perhaps some lingering toasted oak, but it's primarily a cherry-forward nose. Palate - This is unmistakably a bourbon. Pleasant oak and leather notes with subtle vanilla. Nutty flavors emerge strongly in the middle. There's some chili spice (a bit deeper than cinnamon), but it's complementary rather than overwhelming. Finish - The lasting impression is of nuttiness and the bitterness from oak and leather. That cherry note reappears towards the end.

Initial notes of bright apple and fruit are followed by lighter caramel, cereal, mild but tannic oak, and clove. The finish is also tannic but includes hints of vanilla and is of medium duration. Despite its high proof, it remains very smooth without sacrificing flavor or complexity.
