Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye is offered as a limited edition. Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson selected the barrels for this 2025 batch, deeming them ready for release. As a single barrel offering, variations between bottles are expected, which is characteristic of this category. The average proof for this batch is 110.5 (55.25% ABV). Barrels will be distributed on an allocated basis beginning March 2025, with a suggested retail price of $110.

Glass: Glencairn, allowed to rest for 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Tastes like a caramel apple with a hint of graham cracker. Palate: Tastes like cinnamon red hots that coat the mouth. Finish: Pleasantly long and very warm. Splash: Notes of clove and baking spice emerge. Ice: Some vegetal notes appear when poured over a large ice sphere. Overall: 9.5/10 - This bottling receives a lot of attention, and deservedly so. The finish is incredibly persistent, even when served on the rocks. I'd compare it favorably against more expensive ryes.

The initial pour was quite enjoyable. I'm anticipating the flavors will mature and become more complex with aeration. However, I'd still contend my JD barrel proof rye offers better value at half the price. (4 stars) Update: This has opened up magnificently, achieving a richer texture. It now significantly outperforms my top-tier JDBP rye, establishing itself as the premier barrel proof rye available. Excellent work, Michter's!
