About this bottle

While Oaxaca is primarily known for mezcal, the spirit also holds protected designation status in eight other Mexican states. The Jaral de Berrio mezcal originates from San Felipe Torres Mochas in Guanajuato, where the Salmiana agave used in its production grows. Named after the Marquis of Jaral de Berrio, who received royal permission in the late 18th century to distill the first mezcal in "New Spain" at the family hacienda, the estate is now a popular tourist destination. This mezcal is crafted using time-honored methods, including clay ovens, manual crushing, and copper pot distillation, and is bottled directly from the still without aging.

Neal Santiago 3.5

An intense Agave Spirit from NOM-G33T, made with 100% Salmiana agave using traditional methods. The Salmiana species is indigenous to central & southern Mexico. It presents a rich initial phase with notes of agave, vegetables, herbs & spices; a vegetal middle phase adds notes of roasted agave, red pepper & pine; leading to a long finish with notes of cracked black pepper & caramel. April 2017.

Adolfo Mcrae 4.0

Smooth, subtle yet rich. Earthy agave with a hint of fruity sweetness. This is the ideal most blanco tequilas aspire to be. My first mezcal, and it's very promising. Unfortunately, it's one of only a few available here. Cost $42 in Ontario.
