Laura Macias 4.8

The nose immediately begins with a floral, yet funky note reminiscent of vintage bourbons. Old, smoky oak follows, with a vanilla smoothness throughout. This is quite an experience, as it's truly unique. I know they sometimes use chinkapin oak, which imparts a distinct character. The funkiness carries through to the palate, where a touch of pepperiness emerges alongside the oak. It's still supported by vanilla creaminess, and while the flavor profile is relatively simple, the individual flavors are deep and complex. It's very full and lingers inside your mouth. It again strongly evokes sipping on vintage bourbon due to the amount of funk present. It's quite amazing the intensity of flavor they've achieved with this. The finish is long, rich, and chewy, with endless flavor swirling in the mouth. Being barrel strength yet under 100 proof, it's not overly spicy, but just enough to balance everything else. Like many of their other releases, this one is special.
