About this bottle

MB Roland, established in 2009 in Western Kentucky, incorporates "dark firing"—a smoking process—for the corn in its bourbon mash bill, mirroring the region's tobacco curing methods. This bourbon features white corn from a local source and is aged for a minimum of two years in new, charred American oak barrels (both 53-gallon and 26-gallon sizes) with a char #4 level. It is bottled in batches at a proof between 105 and 115, with no water added.

Nash Mckenzie 5.0

110.7 proof. Composed of 45% white corn, 17% rye, 33% dark fired corn, and 5% malt. Flavors of toasted corn, oak, yeasty sour mash, molasses, buttered popcorn, baked apples, cinnamon, scorched caramel, embered oak, smoked grapes, graham crackers, vanilla cream, dark chocolate, and tobacco. It has a thick, oily mouthfeel with notes of citrus, brown sugar, spun sugar, fig bars, and cacao.

Katina Hatcher 3.5

The aroma is a sweet smoke, reminiscent of the bark on a brisket or pork shoulder. I detect some notes similar to Andalusia Stryker, but with corn instead of malt. It's not quite as rich, however. Lightly fried and buttered tortilla with some shredded chicken thigh. A good, long smoky finish.

Juanita Farrar 4.5

The aroma presents smoke alongside sweet corn. The initial taste is quite hot before a fleeting sweetness emerges, followed by smoke, some dried red fruit, and finally a touch of tobacco. The finish lingers for a moderate duration.

Ayden Helms 4.0

Nose: Corn from a street vendor, residue in a pot, caramel, maize, dark sugar Flavor: Smoky, potent corn, charred Finish: Moderate, pot residue, charred sugar

Caitlin Hathaway 4.0

A smoky scent leads to a smooth caramel finish, with subtle hints of broadleaf tobacco and minimal sharpness.

Sarai Isaacs 4.0

A distinct smoky flavor profile.
