Mary Dowling Tequila Barrel Finished Bourbon

A warm, high-rye Kentucky Bourbon produced with a mash bill of 70% corn, 25% malted rye, and 5% malted barley. It was aged for over 3 years in #3 wood-fired, toasted, and charred new American Oak barrels, then finished in Reposado Tequila barrels before being bottled at 46.5% ABV. It begins aromatically with notes of grains, wood, agave, flowers, and spices; while its rich and spicy character adds notes of grapefruit and lemon; leading to a long and warm conclusion with notes of oak, black pepper, smoke, tobacco, anise, and nutmeg.

It's spicy from start to finish. A pleasant sipper. Lacks significant mouthfeel. The cost is a bit high for what it offers, and I'm not convinced I'm detecting the tequila barrel finish.

Clear amber body with medium legs. The aroma is spicy, herbal, fruity, and floral. The flavor is spicy, woody, and floral. It has a medium body with moderate warmth. Rated 8/4/7/3/15, scoring 3.7.

Citrusy orange peel, gentle oak and floral notes, a hint of anise, on the sweeter end, low proof, fades quickly, lacked a distinct tequila finish, not complex

A hint of orange peel, medium amber color, with flavors of orange, lemon, and grapefruit peel.

Strong rye presence detected. No tequila flavor was apparent.
