Macallan Terra

Macallan has its signature style. They all possess the characteristic Macallan aroma with minor variations. They are all sufficiently enjoyable. This particular expression, part of their latest "Quest Collection," is no different. Macallan enthusiasts will genuinely appreciate it, and even those who aren't fans (like myself) will find it pleasant, as I've always maintained that Macallan is the only distillery whose whiskies consistently score above 85 out of 100. Bottled at 43.8% ABV, it has a sunset orange color (as per the website's description). On the nose: it's unmistakably Macallan. I'm confident I could identify this aroma in a blind tasting effortlessly. Notes of sherry, oak, candied fruits, Christmas cake, raisins, cinnamon, cola, and clove. Simply incredible. On the palate, it doesn't quite match the amazing aroma. Flavors of licorice, oak, almonds, nutmeg, and some sherry are present. The finish is medium with hints of cinnamon. Overall, this fine dram warrants the score most Macallans receive: an 89 out of 100.

Appearance: Amber with reddish tones, low viscosity. Nose: Exhibits a typical Macallan scent, sweet (honey, white chocolate, vanilla, toffee), fruity (oranges, plums, apricots, raisins), with notes of malted barley, walnuts, and damp oak. Palate: A sweet and oaky spicy entry, full-bodied, rich, oily. Sweetness comes through as milk chocolate, honey, and toffee. Fruity notes include orange zest, raisins, plums, and apricots. Hints of rum cake and walnuts, with damp oak. Finish: A short to medium finish, leaving a sweet, fruity, and oaky aftertaste. Conclusion: A pleasant and smooth drink. I'm uncertain if it justifies the price, as I believe more complex options are available for the same cost, but it is a Macallan, and it is delicious.

The aroma is elegant and fruity, with hints of toffee and dried fruits. The palate is intricate, showcasing intense sherry notes, ripe fruits, toffee, sultanas, a very subtle chocolate note, with a dry and fleeting mouthfeel, and abundant oak. The finish is quite long, dry, fruity, and woody (oak).

A well-balanced dram with apricots and a hint of coffee on the nose. Rich honey and vanilla with undertones of sherry. The finish is lengthy with a touch of spice. I tried it during a Caribbean cruise and was informed it's currently a duty-free exclusive.

Aroma of dried fruit, accompanied by caramel, a subtle hint of dark chocolate and cinnamon spice. On the palate, it's very smooth, sweet, with notes of figs, nuttiness, raisins, and a touch of bitterness at the end. An excellent bottle from a distinguished distillery. It's worth the cost; I truly enjoyed this one.

Aroma: smoky, light, sweet, with sherry notes. Palate: bitter spice, creamy, butterscotch, leaning more tart than sweet, with roasted almond! The finish is short but leaves a good aftertaste. This is the best scotch I've had so far. Many thanks to a friend.
