Macallan 1989 DT

My impression is that this whisky matured in both ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks: notes of cherry infused in the spirit, nutmeg, beeswax, salted butter, with wood present in the background. Very composed and refined. Over time, it becomes sweeter, revealing ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla. Upon entry, the wood is noticeable, not unpleasant but slightly intrusive, accompanied by spicy nuances, orange peel, pineapple, unripe kiwis, and gianduja cream. The palate is sweet, interspersed with bitter notes. The finish is moderate in length, featuring sugared almonds, spices, bitter orange, and wood. Not perfectly harmonious; it's almost like a disheveled Macallan, where the casks might have been a bit too dominant. Distinctive and unconventional, but not unforgettable.
