Low Gap 2 Year Rye Whiskey

Revisiting this bottle after it sat nearly empty for over a year. My experience with Rye whiskey, Cognac, and Armagnac has grown significantly in that time. With this added perspective, I'm finding it much more pleasing than I recalled. Observed in a brandy snifter: The aroma is predominantly cognac now, with just a subtle hint of rye grass. Stone fruits are the main feature of the mild scent, with minimal alcohol sting despite its youth. Strawberry is prominent, with a touch of raspberry. Beneath these, I detect a trace of corn/bourbon/caramel, though this might be my imagination influenced by knowing it's ex-bourbon. I question if I'd have noticed it otherwise. Flavor/texture: It's smooth and velvety, with a sweet creaminess upfront (reminiscent of tres leches cake, but less sugary) that develops into a slight rye spice sting if held in the mouth. The cognac is present but feels integrated with the rye, not layered on top, creating an impression of baked stone fruit cake rather than distinct flavor strata. Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying this and eager for another taste.

It smells young, but it's pleasant with traces of raspberry, honeysuckle, pomegranate, and melon. At a low 87.2 proof, the youth is apparent but not disagreeable. It's smooth with a soft texture reminiscent of chrysanthemum tea, sea foam, white grape juice, mead, and a subtle rye spice. It has a young finish. It's definitely not worth the price, but, ultimately, it was a gift and I appreciate the unusual flavor profile.
