Longmorn 15 Year

The aroma is somewhat reminiscent of aged cheese, likely influenced by the warm weather. It's very mineral-forward with disappointingly little fruit or wood influence. The palate, however, is quite refreshing and bursts with fruit. The fruit is somewhat subdued by a strong alcohol presence. The cinnamon, ginger, and clove spices are perfectly balanced. The flavor profile is harmonious with several elements at play. There's vanilla, which complements the minerality well. I wish the alcohol wasn't as prominent, but it's not overly aggressive. The sea spray notes are just noticeable enough. There's a subtle smoke that rounds things out, remaining well-controlled. Unfortunately, there's slightly more mineral than I'd prefer. With a bit of lightly iced water, the flavor shifts from sweeter to more bitter. A generous sip reveals that fruit and sweetness are still present, along with sea spray complexity. The vanilla remains quite distinct. There's just enough tartness. The balance is adequate. I find it enjoyable.

Longmorn 16 - 48% - non-chill filtered Requires some time to open up. The palate offers a wealth of complex flavors. Nose: creamy caramel, apple, slightly yeasty. Palate: malty, savory, and bitter. Chocolate, cocoa. A hint of orange zest. Pepper. Smoked cheddar. Finish: medium length, rich, dry, nutty. Almonds. A subtle charred smokiness (not peat).

I have three bottles of this left, purchased when the line was discontinued. It's now considered a cult whisky. It's good, but overrated.

A sweeter spirit that has a strong impact. It's exceptionally smooth, which might not appeal to those seeking a more robust character.

I paid thirty pounds to try the fifteen year old at Boisdale Canary Wharf. A sweet, smoky aroma that alone justifies the entry fee.

I only tried a small bottle, but I recall it being delicious.
