The finish is quite oily, with black pepper and medicinal smoke coating the tongue. Concluding thoughts: For $28, it's a superb choice for budget-conscious peat enthusiasts, offering a rich and vibrant palate. However, it's somewhat disappointing for me personally, as I'm a major admirer of the original Laphroaig 10. I do appreciate that it retains the black pepper notes I enjoy in Laphroaig 10; yet, the coastal brine, fish oil, and strong medicinal character are absent, which I miss. I also favor the rich, sharp profile of Laphroaig 10, whereas this is considerably more mellow and well-rounded. Nevertheless, the sweet fruit notes in the Lonach are a welcome addition. The best way to characterize this whisky is as a less coastal-influenced rendition of Laphroaig 10, leaning towards a more Highland profile with Islay peat influence. Disclosure: I paid $28, but the original price where I purchased it was closer to $40. Pricing will likely vary depending on its availability in your region.
