Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 Year

The color is identical to Inchmurrin. The nose has very little peat, but the taste is smoky and full of peat. The scent is strongly spiced with herbal and medicinal notes, along with wood, malt, and vanilla. The taste is much more peaty, leaning heavily towards an Islay style. The sweetness is mild and less pronounced than in Laphroaig, for instance; it resembles a watered-down sugary syrup. It again has many spices and a robust pepperiness. Initially, it can almost burn your tongue despite only being 46% ABV. It might be most similar to Laphroaig 10, but with significant differences. To summarize the overall impression, imagine the world of spirits as an educational system: Inchmoan is a diligent student, while Lagavulin, Talisker, or Bunnahabhain are the professors. Inchmoan 12 attempts to be formidable and shows considerable promise, but ultimately feels like something significant is missing. However, if you're unwilling to spend on the Islay powerhouses, this peated newcomer could be a fine alternative.

Smoky vegetal aroma, with a plant-like quality. The taste is also floral and green, it genuinely resembles seaweed. The body is rather thin, so the burn is more intense than I would expect for the alcohol content. The peat is strong, and hits at the end, intensifying the burn. It's not bad, and credit for being unique. However, the combination doesn't quite work for me.

This is the smoky and spicy one, quite pleasant. Definitely honey notes and much improved when opened up with a little water, which reduces the spice a bit. For a 12-year-old, this is not bad at all. Looking forward to trying the rest in the range.

Really enjoying this second entry from the 2022 peaty whiskey advent calendar. The nose and palate both feature a chocolate-mint sweetness that is a new experience for me. This is nicely balanced on the palate with peppery peat and oak notes.

Reminds me of: a London townhouse with sooty bricks and a hot cup of black coffee in a thermos you didn’t rinse quite enough. A comforting aroma of sweet smoke with a slightly tart, soapy, taste at the front. A sweet finish.

Nose: faint smoke, some alcohol, fruit, ripe pear. Palate: sweet, smoky, then strong pepper. Finish: starts with pepper, smoke, then sweetness joins and remains longer. Some dryness, ginger, herbal.
