Litchfield Cask Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey

👃: Corn, Swedish fish, ethanol, brown sugar, dark baking spices, ・ 👅: Warming mouthfeel, Sweet corn, Caramel, Cherry, Oak, Anise, Almond butter ・ 🏁: Finish is a bit intense, but a few drops of water make a significant positive difference. A long and nutty finish, with some oak on the finish, which is unexpected given the age. ・・・ I am genuinely eager to discover what Litchfield creates with their current inventory. This spirit at 8-10 years old will be exceptional. It's remarkably enjoyable now at approximately 3-4 years old. Despite its youth, the flavor profile is deep and rich. If aged for another 5-7 years in a barrel, its potential is limitless. I will continue to seek this out as is, but will eagerly anticipate when they begin releasing older expressions!

Single barrel store pick “The Red Dragon” Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Apples, peaches, apricots, raisins. Palate: Clove, cinnamon, baking spice, a touch of oak. Finish: Lingering with moderate warmth. Splash: No new flavors emerge, but the palate integrates better with the finish. Overall: 8.5/10 - I sampled this at the store and was impressed enough to purchase a bottle. I'm pleased I did, as this is considerably better than average for a craft distillery. I'm optimistic about its future.

Splash: Clove notes appear. Overall: 8/10 - Litchfield turns out some good whiskey, but having had the chance to sample a 7-year-old, 132 proof version of this leaves me wanting that. We know what this whiskey could become, but they say that there isn’t a market for it. I humbly disagree.

Intense wood char and smoke, yet smooth. Lacks the typical sweet notes of caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon. The high proof remains on the tongue long after the drink finishes. Features a rich, fruity aroma with a very noticeable high proof. Flavors of oak mingle with corn and a woody chew. The palate presents a sharp tartness and spice. It's missing complexity and has a very hot finish. It hits you immediately with a spicy wood alcohol burst. Not worth a higher price unless you want to try a lesser-known Connecticut producer.

61% abv, 4 years old. Cotton candy on the nose. Raw grains and a touch of vanilla.
