Sheryl Escobedo 3.3

Appearance: A mid-brown color, darker than milk chocolate but not as dark as high-cocoa chocolate, with the reddish-purple hue of thick Italian drinking chocolate. It's completely opaque and thick, resembling thinned chocolate sauce. Aroma: Milk chocolate with a hint of alcohol. A touch of vanilla and some subtle spice notes, but predominantly chocolate. Flavor & Texture: The texture is dense and heavy, like melted chocolate diluted with a little cream. Similar to the aroma, this is a very focused liqueur, solely dedicated to cocoa. The flavors of the Licor 43 base spirit are largely masked; despite subtle hints of spice and vanilla, one might easily assume a neutral spirit base. It's perfectly acceptable as an occasional chocolate treat, akin to a decent quality European chocolate. However, it leans a bit too sweet, which is the most noticeable sign of the Licor 43 foundation. My wife and I both enjoyed it, though it suited her preference more than mine. It's not the best chocolate liqueur we've tried, but it's far from the worst. We finished the bottle quickly, but about half was mixed with mascarpone to create an excellent chocolate sauce for sliced strawberries we were enjoying. “Above Average”: 81/100 (3.25 stars)
