I made an unplanned stop on my journey home to Ohio to visit this craft distillery. My primary motivation was the opportunity to sample a peated bourbon. Firstly, the venue's appearance is fantastic, and I enjoyed learning the brand's backstory. The distiller and their family were present for bottling that day and were incredibly welcoming hosts. They guided me through the tasting and even shared a drink with me, allowing for an exchange of tasting notes. The distiller is genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their craft, experimenting not only with peat but also with a distinctive bloody butcher corn. This red corn imparts a pleasantly creamy texture and an earthy, leathery note to all their whiskey, setting it apart from typical brands. I want to personally thank the distillery for sharing their passion and for a taste of a cask-strength honey barrel (which was amazing!). They've gained a fan, and I'll be observing their progress as their whiskey matures. Oh, and the peated bourbon met expectations.
