The Lhéraud family has cultivated grapes and distilled cognac since 1802. However, it was under the leadership of the current patriarch, Guy Lhéraud, starting in 1970, that the estate began bottling and selling its own products instead of supplying them to the négociants (merchants who typically blend, bottle, and market most cognac).
