Lepanto O.V. Gran Reserva

This site lacks sufficient Spanish brandy options. Such offerings are frequently overly sweet. This Lepanto Oloroso Viejo, however, is distinctly not that. It was aged 12 years in Tio Pepe Fino Sherry; 3 years in ex-Oloroso Apóstoles & Matusalém sherry. It presents a lovely mahogany color in the bottle and a nut-brown hue in the glass. Nose: Clear vanilla; a touch of floral scent. Palate: Earthy. Dried raisins & figs, light toasted nuts. A subtle sweetness, but richer than I had anticipated. Finish: Clove-like alcohol. Lingering. Conclusion: A pleasant spirit for sipping. I'm eager to pair it with Spanish jamon and to contrast it with undistilled Tio Pepe sherry. I may not purchase it again, but it's an enjoyable experience this time.
