LEGENDS BARREL PROOF LIMITED RELEASE WINTER 2020

My family brought bourbons to visit me in Florida, and today, they returned the favor. In a small town in Georgia, a little shop offered bourbon tastings. It's a tiny operation with no apparent distillery. This spirit is said to be a 3-year-old MGP wheated mashbill. They claim their proprietary filtration process is the key, so how does it perform? It quickly presents a rich caramel aroma. There's hardly any ethanol and just a faint grassy note. I would have guessed it was an 85-90 proof mid-rye bourbon at this point. It opens up easily, and a couple of drops of water make it really shine. I love the aroma of this bourbon. The bottle states 115 proof wheated bourbon, straight bourbon whisky. No age statement is given. However, there are no rim or legs on the glass, absolutely none! The mouthfeel is quite thin, but the flavor is intense. The taste is like caramel apples from the county fair. There isn't much else, but I enjoy it. It falls short on the finish, which is just a fleeting moment. I like this bourbon; it has a fantastic aroma, and I truly appreciate that. I prefer it on ice, which is not how I usually drink a high-proof spirit. The finish is unfortunately lacking, and I expect much more from a bourbon at this price point.
