Laphroaig Select

Nose - a sweet smokiness from peat. Taste - peaty and salty, not nearly as intense as the 10 year, and not at all medicinal. I really like this. Finish - the taste of campfire smoke is the only way to describe it, and I love that. Score - 4.0, a reliable pick. Scoring Legend 5.0 - Exceptional, incomparable. 4.5 - Outstanding, I'd always try to have this on hand. 4.0 - Great, very pleasant to consume, a dependable option. 3.5 - Fine, I'd try it again. 3.0 - Typical. 2.5 - Passable, still drinkable. 2.0 - Lacking, drinkable but not pleasurable. 1.5 and below—I would avoid drinking it again unless absolutely necessary.

The aroma is packed with intense peat and smoke. Initially, iodine appears, followed by some pear and mild lemon. The mouthfeel delivers significant peat and wisps of smoke. Brine and malt come after. This isn't for everyone, and certainly not for those who prefer sweet whiskeys. It would be an excellent component for Penicillin's, Rusty Nails, or any other drink requiring a smoky, briny scotch. I'll need to try it out. Nose: subtle phenols, some peat, mild smoke. A subtle fruit (berry?) note from the sherry casks. A touch of scorched wood. Palate: a robust malt character, picking up faint iodine/medicinal touches but much less pronounced than usual. It's sweeter than the 10 I recall. A subtle fruit presence. A hint of oak here as well. Less complex than the 10. Gentle vanilla. Very low alcohol content. Finish: less persistent and viscous than the 10, but still present to a degree.

I reviewed and watched numerous assessments of this product. I'm a big admirer of the 10-year expression. My perspective is that, considering the current global economic challenges and the anticipated worldwide recession, this is a respectable dram, particularly if the 10-year-old is beyond your financial reach. It offers smoky, peated sweetness, a medicinal note, and a hint of iodine and saltiness, which paired well with smoked cheddar on a cream cracker. This would be a convenient regular selection on my shelf.

Nose: Nice, quite a bit of smoke like a bonfire, with hints of fruit and peat. Palate: Somewhat disappointing, smooth smoky taste with a little sweetness, not much else. End: Pretty brief, mainly just a smoky wood aftertaste. General: A satisfactory spirit, the flavor is a little dull but it's enjoyable and considering the cost, it's a good deal.

The aroma of this Select is appealing. It has a sweeter scent than Laphroaig 10, though the peat is less prominent on the nose. The taste is pleasant, but doesn't quite measure up to its standard counterpart. The original is superior in its finish. While decent, I don't consider this a substitute for my Laphroaig 10.
